What is Student Council? Student Council is a group of elected students working together with an adult advisor within the framework of a constitution or bylaws to give opportunities for student experience in leadership, and encourage student/community relations.

Meetings: The Student Council will meet during lunch on Fridays in April and May.
Objective: This year, the Student Council members will select the 2024 Top Dog class gift to be donated to the new MDE. This will include raising money for the gift. Council members will also determine which items will go in their 5th-grade time capsule and assist with graduation.
Campaigning Rules
- You must have applied to run by March 21st and have selected only ONE
- You may have a maximum of one poster: to be displayed in the cafeteria. All posters will be removed by the end of school on April 4th.
- All candidates are expected to be respectful and courteous.
- Candidates may give a speech of one minute or less during lunch on Tuesday, April 2nd.
- The content of your speech must be appropriate for school. No other student can assist you in your speech.
Election: The election will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024. Only 5th-grade students will be voting this year. Each student will get a ballot with each candidate listed alphabetically under their selected position. Ballot boxes will be set up in each classroom. The adult advisors will count the votes.
Available Positions: Below is an overview of the requirement for each position. Students may only run for ONE position.
President:
- Create the agenda for Student Council Meetings
- Preside over Student Council Meetings
- Speak at the 5th Grade Graduation
Vice President
- Preside over the Student Council Meetings when the president is
unavailable
- Facilitate all voting done by the Council
- Help all other officers as needed
Secretary
- Take meeting minutes
- Read any Council Correspondence
- Write thank you notes on behalf of the Council
Treasurer
- Create a budget for the 2023—2024
- Keep track of all Council finances
- Come up with a fundraising plan
Historian
- Gather items for the 5th-grade time capsule
- Be responsible for the completion of the time capsule
- Maintain a file of Student Council Materials
